Raised Beds
The current Shemesh Farms site sits on top of a septic field and thus all edible plants are grown above ground in raised beds. The 13 9x2 beds are a benefit to the farm because of the ability to control the quality of the soil as well as the ability to ward off animals with mesh wire below the beds. About one quarter of the beds are dedicated to the growing of root vegetables, onions, garlic and squash for the Malibu United Methodist Church’s tri-weekly feeding program for the unhoused and hungry.
The raised beds are also situated in such a way that they are wide enough for a wheelchair or a walker to be able to reach each bed.
